Bucharest subway company receives extra funds of lei 118m for line expansion

Bucharest's underground transportation company, Metrorex, received an extra 118 million lei to finish projects for the new subway lines in Bucharest, announced the company's communication director, Mariana Petre.
Some 61 million lei came from the state budget and 57 million lei from a credit granted by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The extra funds will be used to finish the line connecting Nicolae Grigorescu to Bucharest Ring, planned for the end of 2008, and to continue works at the line between Gara de Nord and Laromet.
The extended budget will also be allocated to upgrade the existing lines and to finish the project for a new line linking the western neighbourhood Drumul Taberei to the centre of the capital.
The auction to select a contractor to build the new line is planned for the last quarter of this year.
