Experts will discuss construction of the second bridge linking Romania and Bulgaria, in September

Experts from Romania and Bulgaria will meet on September 4 for talks over the construction of the Calarasi-Silistra bridge across the Danube, connecting the two countries, announced Romanian Transports Minister, Ludovic Orban.

The meeting will be followed by a feasibility study, a technical project and an environmental impact study. Bulgaria and Romania are connected through a single bridge over the Danube, between Ruse and Giurgiu, while Vidin and Calafat towns are united through a ferryboat route.

The constructor for the second bridge over the Danube, between Romania's Calafat and Bulgaria's Vidin, will be selected on October 15. The investment stands at 118 million euros, out of which 51 million euros to be paid by the Romanian government. The bridge should be ready in 2010. The two countries will also spend 25 million euros each to upgrade the Giurgiu-Ruse bridge.
