Residential building licenses in Romania drop 9.1% in January this year

The number of authorizations for new residential buildings fell 9.1% in January this year compared with January 2007, according to a release issued by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

2,411 construction licenses were issued for residential complexes in January 2008: 66.7% for rural areas and 33.3% for the urban developments. The fall in construction licences bucks the trend for increase: 56,618 construction licenses were issued for 2007 up 10.9% increase from 2006.

Bucharest-Ilfov is witnessing the largest number of constructions (1,355), followed by the Central region (1,233) the Western region (976) and North-western region (825).
